For the holiday weekend, we traveled to Iowa to spend a little time with family. Of course the visit was too short but we managed to cram lots of stuff in. Golfing, cooking, bubbles, food, gardening, talking, cousin time, food, food prep, laughing, fabric instruction, eating and did I mention food yet? Lots of food, lots of good food.
Mom and PC graciously allow us to share in the bounty of their garden so this time we all helped harvest the ripe and ready produce.
They use an acre of land a few blocks from their house and fill it with all sorts of goodies.
I didn’t get shots of all the goodies (I did have to help) but I did manage to snag a few. Below are the “tomato trees”.

Some of us had more fun than others but to each their own. (This is my niece and notice the cucumber she is clutching in her left hand. Makes me smile.)
Sweet J was a passive by-stander and enjoyed the bug net so much he eventually sucked on it.

After eating some more, there was some bubble making.

To cap off the night, we lit a few paper lanterns (found here). They are so beautiful and peaceful.

And finally, for those unaware, the NFL season kicked off last night and the world champion Green Bay Packers continued their streak and were victorious over the New Orleans Saints. I had a church meeting but when I returned, my family was dressed accordingly.

Love it all! I had just told my colleagues today that my son-in-law is a Packer fan and that his family dresses for the games! What a great game. I confess, I went to sleep before it was over so I did miss some of the excitement. You made our weekend seem magical through your photos……and to me it was just that.
Rhubarb. Thats what that cool looking plant you photographed was…can be used for a variety of different things from jam to pie. Don’t eat the greens! You cut off the leaf and use the red stem. It is very tart needs loads of sweetner (sugar, maple syrup, agave, stevia whatever your preference). My MIL made a strawberry, cream cheese, rhubarb pie once that was out of this world. I am new to your blog and enjoy it very much. I “liked” it on my FB business page. I love to get upbeat inspiring posts. Thank you.

Second glance it could be swiss chard…its a lettuce. Delicious. That one you eat only the leaf and discard the red stem! Now I am curious. Maybe your mom knows!!
