An Admission & House Updates

I’m ashamed to admit it but our interior painting projects are still unfinished.

I am also ashamed to admit that I just don’t want to do it.

Ugh. It’s not a small project and it’s not one I can do while the children run and play around me. MJ and I have set aside time on a few occasions to work on it and went in motivated but our enthusiasm fizzled quickly and it’s still undone. Maybe this weekend…??

On a positive note, I have been able to complete a few other projects around here and two of them required spray paint.

This is the stool Love Bug leaps off of multiple times a day and uses as a baracade when she ‘just wants to be alone’ I use at my work table. Bug does sit on it sometimes to create pictures like this one.

My lovely mother-in-law had this guy in storage so when I mentioned I was looking for a stool, she handed him over. He was a little worn but being the right height and sturdy made him a keeper. Over the summer, for my art show, I amassed quite the collection of spray paint. One day, the idea hit me and I dragged the stool outside for a make-over.

After thoroughly wiping him down and laying down a coat of primer, I layered on two coats of the gorgeous Gloss Colonial Red by Rustoleum. I painted slowly and didn’t try to generously coat everything in one pass. Instead, I built light coat upon light coat for a smooth and non-runny finish.

Now, he’s pretty flashy.

The other spray paint project was on a set of drawers I got from my great-grandma’s house after she passed away. Gladys, my great-grandma, had a sizable collection of furniture in her not-so-big house. :) For the longest time, I got her scent each time I opened a drawer. I’m sad that the scent has now faded.

The dresser needed a little updating. The drawers were various shades of off-white but otherwise in good shape. I removed the drawer pulls and am saving them to reattach.

After covering the interior of the drawers and taping off the edges, I lightly sanded them to remove the somewhat glossy finish and then thoroughly wiped them down. First went the primer and then, after some soul searching, I topped it all with…..semi-gloss white. I know, kind boring but I wanted to keep it versatile and, as mentioned above, I’m not in a place where I should be adding future paint projects to my stagnant list.

I haven’t reattached the pulls yet. I don’t want to hurt my paint job! But, it’s on my agenda today. It’s necessary. The cleanliness of our bedroom depends on it.

And finally, about a month ago now, I reupholstered our headboard and rehung it. After initially finding a $45/yard fabric that I really liked, I found this similar one in the red tag section for $7/yard. The fiscally responsible side won and here we are.

The frosty blue doesn’t quite match our golden sheets but it works for now. I took off the pillows so the headboard would be more visible. I haven’t found a bed skirt yet. Embarrassing.

Then my little helpers wanted in, or up, I suppose.

Pretty much the most fun ever. :)
