Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Bake Sale

I have partnered with The Glad Products Company through DailyBuzz to help promote their Food Storage products. I have been compensated for my time commitment to work with this product. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments. Thank you GLAD!

For me, the holidays mean a least one holiday-cookie-making day, if not more. There are so many favorites that it’s hard to choose which ones to make which usually equates to way more batches of cookies than there are people to eat them in our house. Partnering with GLAD for this Cookies for Kids’ Cancer campaign took care of that. I was able to bake and bake and the mass of cookies was used for good, instead of just sugar high induction.

This campaign also meant a lot to me on a personal level. Last year, very good friends of ours lost their young son, Superman, to an aggressive form of brain cancer. To be part of this was a way for me to support all those families and children fighting and dealing with cancer. To support research for new and improved therapies for all kinds of pediatric cancer. To help stop the pain and loss before it starts.

Because of our travel schedule, we planned and had our bake sale at MJ’s work place. We set up a little table and loaded it with sweets. I stuck fun stickers to just about everything, even used stickers on a piece of foam core for the backdrop.

With GLAD, I was able to try their Press’n Seal product for the first time. Just last month, a friend of mine told me she exclusively uses it to cover leftovers and such. I was planning on trying it myself after I’d run out of my other stuff.

Sugar cookies are a must-do at our house for the holidays so they had to be a part of the bake sale. The Press’n Seal was perfect for covering and protecting the sugar cookies. No squished tops here. The Press’n Seal can be pulled taut over a paper plate and it stays there. It doesn’t lay on top of the frosted cookie and ruin the perfect/not-so-perfect frosting. :) And when I was packing up for transport, I was able to stack a few plates and the cookies were still safe.

If you’ve never used Press’n Seal, it’s as easy as tearing off a sheet and sticking it down. One side is tackier than the other and it grips whatever it’s stuck to. I was able to wrap each cookie plate and keep my cookies looking perfect. Aren’t they cute?

I’m not sure why I hadn’t tried it sooner but I’m sold. It sticks to everything people! Easily too! I’m all for easy.

Mexican Wedding Cakes are another favorite holiday cookie of mine. It was always my pick to make in my youth. To keep the little powder-sugar-covered cookies safe from a crumbly demise, I bunched up some Cling Wrap at the bottom of a clear bag and then stacked the cookies on top.

The Cling Wrap made a nice cushion to keep this sweet treat safe.

I used GLAD Press’n Seal again to wrap up a cookie I only know by the name of the woman who shared it with us. It’s single graham crackers covered in a caramely mix of butter and sugar topped with slivered almonds and then baked in the oven until bubbly. It’s so simple but so good. However, it is a bit sticky so I thought if I used the clear bags they would get gunked up. Instead, I made little pouches with the Press’n Seal. First, I laid out a sheet of Press’n Seal and made a few piles of cookies on the tacky side. Then I topped the first sheet with a second sheet, tacky side down, and used my finger to press around each pile of cookies.

After each pile was sealed up, I cut around them with scissors so each stack was its own bag.

I couldn’t help myself and had to eat one of the packets. Opening the little package made it seem even more treat-like. And if I hadn’t eaten all three in 2.7 seconds, I could have resealed the packet and saved them for later. Something this good is not saved for later.

I just loved these little buttons. Love Bug did too and kept one for herself.

All in all, the bake sale was a success. MJ’s co-workers kindly supported our sweet endeavor which ultimately supports pediatric cancer. I like this group so much that I hope to make this a yearly thing. I can feed my need to bake for the holidays while giving back to a cause I wholeheartedly support.
