bareSkin, All Day Long

I have a relaxed relationship with makeup. It’s a combination of growing up in a house where makeup wasn’t a focus, being blessed with pretty good skin and just plain apathy. Most days, I swipe on mascara and call it good. Oh, my vanity (and lack of sleep) calls for a little under eye cover as well. I know as I age my practices will change but right now, what I do works. That being said, after a complimentary makeup appointment, a treat for speakers at Alt Summit, I was reacquainted with bareMinerals cosmetics. When I was given the opportunity to try bareSkin, bareMinerals ‘tone-correcting mineral foundation and brightening serum’, I said, yes please!

When it comes to foundation, I only apply it a couple of times a week – Sunday for church and real life and professional outings. Over the years, I’ve tried so many foundations. The liquid stuff with the wedge sponge, the super dry compact, the thick, heavy stuff, the really chalky stuff, I’ve applied it all. According to my makeup lot, none worked. Even for the few days I wear it, I’m snobby about what I put on my face. I don’t like to feel it or really see it. Also, I really hate smelling it. My experience with bareSkin encouraged me to believe I’ve found the right one.

Here’s what I found:

– bareSkin goes on like air. After putting a couple drops in the brush, it disappeared as I applied it to my skin. So great! It doesn’t feel makeup-y at all. It actually felt good for my face.  The foundation can be applied by hand, too.

– My application only required a few drops for my entire face. I wanted to keep adding drops and brushing it on (because it was fun!) but it was unnecessary. I love not having to use very much. I love when makeup lasts for a long time.

– Usually good coverage means a heavy body. I mean, that’s how paint works. However, bareSkin is weightless and the coverage is excellent. It smoothed my complexion, giving it a silky, luminous appearance (I’m all for silky and luminous). It wasn’t cakey and it didn’t settle in wrinkles and lines anywhere. It covered so well I didn’t need to apply under eye cover. Less is more, peeps. (I cannot confirm the wrinkles and lines bit because I have none. Haha!)

– bareSkin is fragrance free. Like none at all. It’s amazing.

So the foundation goes on smooth, covers fabulously, has no fragrance and doesn’t settle. However, my favorite part is, even after a long day – a warmish humid day filled with wrestling children, complete with lots of face squeezes, face nuzzles, hair play and wet kisses – the makeup didn’t budge. My hair didn’t hold up and my mascara was a little smudged but the bareSkin stayed put. At the end of the day, the serum was still conspicuously inconspicuous, weightless with great coverage.

I’m sold.
